A cartoon book companion to JUST DON'T DO IT: A FRACTURED AND IRREVERENT LOOK AT THE PH.D. CULTURE
The Ph.D. Culture Project Cartoon Book
by Gary M. Grobman, Ph.D., & Jerry King
Inspired by the book, Just Don't Do It: A Fractured and Irreverent Look at the Ph.D. Culture, these cartoons are original, new, and outrageously funny. No aspect of the academic culture is sacrosanct. Regardless of whether you have your Ph.D., are in a Ph.D. program, or are considering a program--or know someone who meets one of these three criteria--you will find yourself laughing out loud, crying, or perhaps both at the same time. Behind Grobman and King's offbeat humor is a message about the often dehumanizing nature of the process of obtaining one's Ph.D., and the need for reform.
Each of the 65 cartoons in this volume is accompanied by comments by Gary Grobman about what particular aspect of the Ph.D. culture is the target of his arrows, as well as an excerpt from Just Don't Do It!
Gary M. Grobman is the author of a dozen textbooks and trade books on nonprofit management, in addition to Just Don't Do It! A Fractured and Irreverent Look at the Ph.D. Culture, upon which this cartoon book is based. He received his B.S. from Drexel University, his M.P.A. from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, and his Ph.D. from Penn State University. In the 1980s, he was the political humor columnist for Roll Call.
Jerry King is an award-winning cartoonist and one of the most prolific, published, and versatile cartoonists in the world today. He is a graduate of Ohio State University.
